My name is Marty Flood and I am the president of a new local charity, the Friends of Memorial Park Improvement Project, Inc.  A resident of Manchester, I am also on the board of the M/E Junior Hornets Football Club and you may recall we had some contact last season.  The Friends of Memorial Park Improvement Project, Inc. hopes to improve the men's baseball field in Essex as well as the adjacent war memorials.  Our board consists of residents from Essex and Manchester who are interested in men's baseball at every level as well as the veteran memorials located directly behind the home plate area.  Currently, I am trying to generate support for the organization.  To date, we have presented the project and plans to several municipal committees in Essex as well as the local American Legion in town.

Plunge Logistics

1. The plunge time is at 11am on Saturday, February 9th. IF we need to reschedule do to weather, the snow date is Saturday, February 16.
2. IF we need to reschedule due to weather, we will first post any schedule changes on our website (www.rotary7930.org) and social media (@rotary7930 and www.facebook.com/RotaryDistrict7930) by 7pm on the night before (February 8th).
3. Hot beverages and snacks will be available FREE. Please remember that this is a family-friendly event. Alcohol is not permitted in the parking areas nor outside.
4. ALL plungers MUST sign a waiver (download waiver here). It GREATLY speeds up check in if you send it to me early at polarplunge7930@gmail.com.
5. Participants MUST check in at the check in trailer. This is also where you'll get a free shirt. The shirt is ONLY free for those pre-registered on Mobile Cause. Sizes are first-come-first served.
6. Participants MUST park at the satellite parking lot at Good Harbor Beach, which is FREE and clearly marked. Free shuttles will be available to bring participants to the Cape Ann Motor Inn.
7. A male and female changing room is available at the Inn but will be very busy!
8. Tip for the beach: wear something on your feet. The sand takes away heat fast as you wait!
9. Participants can still join a team! Please register friends and family at https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/polio
10. Any offline donations (those not made via Mobile Cause) should be sent to Amy Luckiewicz to be recorded on your team page. Please send the donor name (or anonymous), gift amount and which page it should be credited to to Amy at polarplunge7930@gmail.com. All off-line donation should be sent to The Rotary Foundation by April 1, 2019.

Plan on attending the Kentucky Derby Party & Auction at the American Legion in Manchester for a very fun and lively night.  The $30 ticket includes a live screening of the race, buffet dinner, live and silent auctions, as well as prizes for the best “his” and “her” Derby Day hats.

The event is the Manchester-Essex Rotary Club’s largest annual fundraiser.  Each year, the Club awards several thousand dollars in scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Essex and Manchester.  We are asking the community to support us in this effort.  Do you have an unusual item for auction?  A painting or antique piece of jewelry, sports tickets, or a time-share that you won’t be using?  Senator Bruce Tarr, our auctioneer, will turn your item into gold for some deserving students starting college.

Nancamp is an all-volunteer, North Shore non profit organization established to sponsor children dealing with cancer to attend summer day camps.

Their mission is to identify families dealing with cancer and to offer the children in those families a one- to two-week summer day camp experience at no cost to the family (transportation may be included).

Kent Harrop  will give us an update on Amos and things in Nicaragua. We are trying to get a didtrict grant to aide them in their mission of improving the health of the remote villages they serve.
