Heritage trees in Manchester
Aug 11, 2021 7:30 AM
I would be delighted to make a brief presentation about the work and aspirations of Friends of Manchester Trees of which I serve as a Director providing marketing communications (advertising and PR Counsel). The occasion to outline Friend's mandate in siting, planting, and maintaining public shade trees and town trees including care and protection for Heritage Trees throughout Manchester. I will provide a top line of the first-ever Town Tree Policy approved by the BOS earlier this year. Please know Friends has not publicly announced the Policy. And as we discussed on Saturday I would like to share our effort to protect a public shade tree, a majestic oak approaching 100yrs w/ a twin at the main entrance to the new Memorial School where the builders want to cut it down to make room for a school sign.
I will bring a handout to solicit support to save the tree that goes before the BOS on Monday,
August 16th for a final decision and welcome questions from your colleagues.
Professionally I am a creative director (designer/ copywriter) for my firm Minasian Marketing Communication based here in town having worked in media and MarCom at major Boston Ad agencies and television stations in previous career stops.
My contact information follows.
Thank you for the opportunity to address Rotary. I look forward to learning what I need to know
to fit into your meeting.
Best regards,
Peter

I am pushing back tomorrow night's Board Meeting to start at 7pm instead of 6:30pm. One of our members, Ken Davis, is being celebrated by the Cape Ann Chamber as Manchester's Small Businessperson of the year. The event is being held at the American Legion (in the Hall) and a few of you are planning to attend.
The event is free, but you must register. Below is an excerpt from an email sent late last week:

Sep 22, 2021 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Sorry we are now full for this year up for this year, registration is closed!
Please join us Wednesday evening September 22nd from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, as we sail around Gloucester Harbor and surrounding areas aboard the Pinky Schooner "Ardelle". Captain Harold Burnham is a great friend of Rotary; we were there for him when he built this beautiful boat, and he is looking forward to hosting us.
We shove off from just behind Maritime Gloucester on Harbor Loop. This is earlier than usual for an evening meeting, but we want to make sure we get the sail in during daylight hours, and we promise you will not regret leaving work a little early.
Tickets are $30 per person. We will supply light fare (appys/sandwiches etc) and soft drinks. Beer and wine can be purchased on the boat for an additional cost. You may not bring any alcohol on board with you.
Bring an extra layer for sure, and flat, rubber-soled shoes work best.
We'd love to fill the boat, and since 39 is the maximum occupancy, feel free to invite a friend/spouse. Best way to reserve your seat is to sign up and pay on the Rotary website. Marcia has set up a "button" for your convenience.
We don't have a rain date at the moment, so think positive thoughts! However, if it's a total washout, we'll come up with plan B.

Once again it is that time of year when we are all thinking about the up coming holidays. In the spirit of the season the club has generously donated $1000 toward buying holiday gifts for those less fortunate which will be donated to Pathways for children. Each year I organize the shopping trip for this event. This year we will be shopping early to avoid supply chain issues, meeting at Wal-mart on 114 on Sunday, November 14th at 11AM. After the shopping is over, we will deliver the toys to my office in Magnolia and then meet for a drink and a bite at a location to be determined. Please let me know if you are interested in joining us for one of the most enjoyable events of the year. Send me an e-mail to Aikirob@yahoo.com. Include your phone number in the e-mail in case of last minute changes. All my best, Rob |

Town Planner
Nov 17, 2021 6:00 PM
The Downtown Improvement Committee was formed several years ago to undertake the original Downtown Improvement Project, which rebuilt curbs, sidewalks, and lighting in the lower downtown area, which emphasis on improving safety and accessibility for all users in addition to vehicles. We currently have two major point of focus. One is to be in dialog with the business community on behalf of the Town to identify and implement policies which can support business recovery from COVID. Areas where we have been active include the pathway between town hall parking and Beach St.; providing public rest rooms in the business area; improving outdoor dining opportunities; and identifying ways to provide parking for employees which will maximize street parking for customers. Our longer term project is dependent upon funding to be realized through state and federal infrastructure programs which are likely to be forthcoming, and represents extending the original improvements in sidewalks, curbs, lighting, and accessibility throughout downtown, i. e. to Pine St. along central; to Tappan down Beach, and to the Sea/Washington St. intersection on Summer. Obviously we are always open to new ideas from others and welcome the opportunity to discuss our current initiatives. |
